Raining on your elopement day? Here’s what to do!

Elopement Tips

Rain on your elopement day? Legend tells us it’s good luck!

No matter how diligent you are with your wedding plans, at the end of the day, there’s always the possibility that our dear friend Mother Nature plays tricks on you, and decides to rain.

Don’t stress though, because there’s always another option!  The beauty of elopements is that they’re ALL about you, which makes it much simpler if you need to switch to Plan B, change up your timing, or have a last-minute location change.

At the end of the day, planning is the key! Take a little bit of extra time to prep your elopement, should the weather turn, will ensure your special day is still perfect.

Are you planning on eloping?  Here’s what you’ll want to do if it rains…

Embrace it!

Grab the fact that it’s raining, and RUN with it!

It’s easy to be put off if something’s not quite what you expect, but the best thing to do if it rains on your elopement day, is to embrace it and HAVE FUN!

There are so many great things to love about a rainy elopement, so why not make the most of them?

There’s nothing like some gloomy, stormy weather. A bit of fog and some low light makes things feel SO romantic, it really just sets the mood for a day filled with so much love. We can just picture the stunning backdrop of a calm, drizzly day, a beautiful landscape, and the two of you huddled together, having the time of your life. So, not only is it super romantic, a rainy wedding can be wild, freeing, and oh so natural!

Not to mention the amazing lighting that a bit of cloud cover brings! The moody, soft light lends to the most stunning, moody photos.

So, at the end of the day, don’t be scared by a bit of rain coming your way on your elopement. Whip out the umbrellas and embrace the unique beauty of the day – and we’re sure you’ll look absolutely fabulous in the rain!

Go with the Flow!

One of the best parts of eloping is the fact that it’s ALL up to you. This means that you can just roll with whatever happens, going with the flow to make your day perfect for you!

Having a casual, private or intimate wedding or elopement, means that there are fewer people to deal with, and fewer things to think about if plans have to change. This gives you some amazing flexibility to change up things with your timeline, or the order of your day if necessary.

For example, if it ends up raining for an hour around the time of your ceremony, you can easily push things back a little, start things a little bit earlier, or even switch up locations!

We love going with the flow – because as much as having a super structured plan is important, it’s also equally important to remember that the day revolves around you, and you can change up whatever you want!

Rain Plan

Planning ahead is one of the key things to think about for a rainy wedding.

There are a number of things that you can do in advance to ensure that your bases are covered if it rains all day, allowing for you to still have the most amazing day!

The first thing we always recommend is to book some accommodation that you can imagine yourself getting married in if necessary. This is why Airbnb is a great place to look for the most beautiful elopement and accommodation properties – check out our blog HERE

First and foremost, when finding suitable accommodation, consider what suits your style and vibe, it might be somewhere cozy and bright, with plenty of natural light. There also plenty of amazing places with great covered outdoor patios and verandas!

Alternatively, find yourself a location that has the option of an undercover ceremony. It might be a garden with a Homestead, or a secluded rotunda in a park. Keeping your options open, for you to either have an open air, or undercover elopement!

One of our fave parts of our service is our location guide, which will provide you with details of all of these potential options, specific to your special day and chosen location!

Pack your Gumboots (and other gear)!

If it looks like it’s going to rain on your elopement day, make sure to throw in some appropriate wet weather gear!

Here’s our go-to list of things, that can be easily forgotten:

– Grab your boots! No one wants a muddy face plant at their elopement (despite the great photos!), so make sure your footwear is appropriate for your special day!

– Bring a towel. This one is super easy to forget – we always suggest just throwing a couple in your bag just in case.

– Rain jackets! No need to get your wedding attire wet if you don’t need to.

– A waterproof bag for your wedding things! This will protect the crucial things like your vows, paperwork and rings.
